Here are some of the frequently asked questions that we receive. 

What is Go Your Own Way (GYOW)?

Go Your Own Way is a Lake District-based brand creating handmade travel, hiking and adventure gifts, including personalised OS® map gifts, 3D contour maps, and outdoor-inspired homeware. Every item is designed to help you celebrate places you love and memories you’ve made.

What kinds of gifts do you sell?

We specialise in personalised adventure gifts and keepsakes, including OS® map gifts featuring your chosen location, 3D contour maps and map artwork, Three Peaks map art, 214 Club (Wainwrights) and 282 Club (Munros) gifts, outdoor lifestyle items (like mugs, flasks, camping gifts and pet accessories), and Lake District-inspired homeware and souvenirs.

Are your products handmade in the UK?

Yes. Our products are designed and made in the Lake District, UK, inspired by the landscapes of Cumbria and beyond.

What are OS® map gifts?

OS® map gifts use licensed Ordnance Survey mapping to create meaningful keepsakes of places that matter to you — ideal for hikers, explorers, or anyone celebrating a special location.

How do I personalise a map gift or custom item?

On the product page, add the location (mountain, town or postcode), plus any names, dates, dedication text, and extra notes. If you’re unsure or you’ve got a specific idea, contact us before ordering and we’ll help you get it right.

Can I request a proof before you make it?

We don’t automatically send proofs because it slows dispatch down, but you can request one. Add a note in your personalisation box and we’ll send a proof for approval before making your item. Please allow a little extra time if you choose this option.

What locations can you map?

We can map any UK location covered by Ordnance Survey, including Lake District fells, Wainwright routes, Munros, the Three Peaks, and personal locations like proposal spots, wedding venues, favourite campsites, or hometowns.

Do you make gifts for Wainwright, Munro or Three Peaks completers?

Yes. We have dedicated collections for 214 Club (Cumbrian Wainwright completers), 282 Club (Scottish Munro completers), and Three Peaks map gifts — perfect for milestone gifts.

Are colours and map details exactly the same as on screen?

We aim to match colours closely, but screens and printing materials can cause slight colour differences. This is normal and doesn’t affect the accuracy of the mapped location.

What are your lead times and how long does personalisation take?

We aim to make and dispatch all orders within 14 working days. Personalised items are made to order, so if you need something by a specific date, add a note at checkout and we’ll do our best to help.

Do you offer gift wrapping and packaging?

The majority of items come gift-wrapped as standard. If you need something extra special, please contact us before ordering.

What postage options do you offer?

Standard postage options are shown at checkout. Tracked or signed-for postage is available on request — contact us before ordering for a quote.

Do you ship across the UK and internationally?

Yes — we ship across the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). International shipping is available on many items; availability, pricing and estimated timelines will show at checkout. If you’re unsure, just contact us.

What if I made a mistake in the personalisation?

If you spot an error, contact us as soon as possible after ordering. If we haven’t started production, we can usually update it. If production has begun, we’ll still try to help where we can.

Can you create something totally bespoke?

Yes — we love bespoke requests and commissions, from custom map designs to one-off gift ideas. Contact us with your idea and we’ll let you know what’s possible.

Do you offer wholesale availability?

Yes. All items are available for wholesale orders. Please contact us to discuss trade options.

Where can I see your products in person?

We’re available through selected stockists and at some local events. If you’d like to know where to find us, contact us and we’ll point you in the right direction.

What materials do you use?

Materials vary by product (wood, enamel, textiles, print media and more). Each listing includes details so you can check what your item is made from before ordering.

How do I care for my product?

Care guidance depends on the item, and care instructions are included with relevant products (in English). If you have any questions before ordering, just ask.

Where can I find sizing details?

Most sizing details are listed on each product page. If anything is unclear, contact us before ordering.

What is your returns policy?

Non-personalised items can usually be returned in line with our returns/refund policy. Personalised products are made to order and can’t be returned unless faulty.
